Gifts of Appreciated Securities

Gifts of securities such as stocks, mutual fund shares or other appreciated assets can be a great tax-efficient method for making a gift to Breakwater. In most instances, you can take a tax deduction for the full market value of the gift and avoid any capital gains tax. Gifts by credit card may be made on line or by calling Kathy Damon, Director of Development and External Affairs (see above). You will need to provide the following information:

  • Credit card type: Visa, MasterCard (Sorry, we do not take American Express.)
  • Full name (as it appears on card) and zip code
  • Card number, expiration date, and 3-didgit CVC#
  • Amount of gift
  • Daytime phone number
  • Matching gifts
