Greeting from the President of the Board of Trustees I first discovered Breakwater a few years ago when we were looking for a preschool for our son. We were impressed by the magical nature of the school and its community of engaged, caring, and creative adults. The children are always smiling and interacting with teachers, administrators, and students of all ages. Many families save for a college education, which is important, but investing in a child’s formative years and early education has a powerful impact on his or her long term success. Now, as our son enters the Middle School, we continue to see his growth and maturity build. I have served on the Breakwater Board of Trustees for several years and participated on the facilities and finance committees. As a retired business executive, I have found it very rewarding to contribute something back to the community by supporting both students and faculty at this unique school. I am also honored to work with this year’s Board of Trustees, an exceptional group of experienced and knowledgeable individuals who bring to the table their diverse backgrounds and perspectives as well as a unified commitment to Breakwater’s continued advancement and long-term success. Breakwater is an academically excellent school and a growing enrichment center serving families in greater Portland. We have an inspiring educator in David Sullivan, our Head of School, who is focused on consistent implementation of best practices for optimal learning and the delivery of an integrated, challenging, and authentic curriculum through a defined methodology. Our school, curriculum, and teaching models comprise the science behind the magic at Breakwater. Yet it is the community of adults who are invested and engaged in our children’s education that creates and sustains the magical atmosphere of belonging and enthusiasm for lifelong learning. I encourage you to visit Breakwater and experience the “magic” first hand. If you are already a member of our community, I hope you will become actively involved in whatever ways best suit your schedule, interests, and areas of expertise. Whether you volunteer in the classroom, teach an enrichment class, provide resources or expertise, or serve on a committee or the Board of Trustees, it will be rewarding for both you and our students. Sincerely, Sam Fratoni, Ph. D. |
