Every time I see this building, I know that I am going to have some fun and learn something new.

Breakwater School Facilities

Our main building (brick building) contains 3 Preschool classrooms, 2 Kindergarten classrooms, 3 classrooms for First and Second graders, and 5 classrooms for Third, Fourth, and Fifth graders, and Breakwater's Integrated Arts Studio. It also houses our 8,000+ volume Library, our administrative offices, and an elevator that makes the entire building handicapped accessible.

The Daniel N. Crewe multi-purpose building (“The Dan”) offers an indoor recreation space that includes an elementary school- sized basketball court and a 6-foot high, 40-foot long transverse climbing wall.

The Jessie Bullens-Crewe building contains a stage and small auditorium well-suited for musical or dramatic performances by young students.  It also contains Breakwater's Middle School and business offices.

The Big Toy and adjacent playing fields are next to our paved outdoor recreation area for our older students, and provides them with years of climbing, sliding, and swinging fun. Breakwater is currently undergoing a Playground Greening Project in collaboration with the City of Portland. To learn more about this project or to get involved, contact Molly Thompson at 772-8689.

The Small Toy is located in a fenced-in area reserved for our younger students. It offers an area for them to run around, play, climb, and slide safely with similar-aged children.

The Jessie Bullens-Crewe Nature Preserve (known as JessieLand) is our 21 acre nature preserve, located 15 minutes from school just off I-295 in Cumberland, Maine.  It offers nature trails, a rain shelter, and bathroom facilities.  It is used throughout the year by students of all ages as part of our curriculum, providing them with a safe and idyllic place to discover the natural wonders of the world in which we live. Breakwater's Outdoor Adventure Program often uses this land for Wednesday field trips.
